3 Frugal Living Tips – Healthy Eating Edition
Today’s frugal living tips focus on one of the most important parts of your expenses: food.
We can’t do much to control rising gas prices, but you can definitely save some money on the fuel you put into your body (if only the car would run on SPAM and extra virgin olive oil!).
People often use the, “It’s cheap,” excuse to justify eating the slop they serve at fast food joints, but if you follow these tips, you can eat at near or below the same dollar cost, while costing your waistline and arteries a lot less!
3 Tips for Frugal Eating
I’ll take 25 pounds of broccoli, please. The most obvious way to save money on food is to shop at bulk/discount wholesalers like Costco or Sam’s Club. Sure, you may not feel comfortable stacking a giant 50-roll package of toilet paper in your cart, but buying frozen foods in bulk can save you a lot of moolah. And, even mammoth bags of frozen foods will usually last long enough for you to eat your way through them. Forget the green bananas. Many grocery stores have separate shelves or sections for fruits and vegetables that are in need of a consumer, quick! Often times, they offer discounts on produce that is ripe and ready, so customers will buy it before it goes bad. This leaves those green bananas more time to ripen, which you can find right back at the same discount spot in a few days! Make way for Farmer Jack (or Jill). Growing your own fruits and vegetables can not only save you some cash, but you may find it to be a very enjoyable hobby as well. Start small by choosing one food to nurture and raise as your own. Provided your creation makes its way to the dinner table and beyond, “branch out” and start ramping up your farming selection.
Use any of these tips for frugal living, or combine all three, to slash your budget and your waistline!
